Green Valley Crossing, a church in cooperation with the SBC, has adopted the Baptist Faith and Message (2000) as their Statement of Belief. It can be found in its entirety at Southern Baptist Faith & Message. Below is a synopsis of our core beliefs.

What We Believe

The Scriptures
We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God and is without error in the original manuscripts. It is authoritative, sufficient, and the supreme rule for faith and life.

God
We believe in one living and true God, an infinite, holy, and personal Being, who eternally exists in three Persons — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — having the same nature, attributes, and perfections.

a. God the Father
The Father is the first Person of the Trinity, the source, sustainer, and sovereign ruler of creation, working all things according to His purpose and grace.

b. God the Son
The Lord Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God. By the Holy Spirit, He was conceived and born of the virgin Mary, fully God and fully man. He lived a sinless life, offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for sin, rose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven, now reigns at the Father’s right hand, and will return to judge the world and consummate His Kingdom.

c. God the Holy Spirit
The Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity, fully divine. He convicts the world of sin, regenerates sinners, indwells believers, sanctifies them, and empowers for Christian living and service. We affirm the continuation of supernatural spiritual gifts within a clear biblical framework, always in order, always in control, always glorifying God.

Man
We believe that humanity was created in the image of God, righteous and holy, but through Adam's sin, fell into sin and became alienated from God. All human beings are sinners by nature and by choice, unable to redeem themselves and subject to God’s wrath, unless redeemed by God.

Salvation
We believe that salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. God in His sovereign choice regenerates us, giving new life, enabling us to respond in faith. Those who repent and believe are declared righteous before God by the imputed righteousness of Christ. Believers are progressively made holy through the work of the Holy Spirit. Those truly saved will persevere in faith and cannot finally fall away; assurance is based on God’s promise and evidences of faith.

The Church
We believe that the Church is the local gathering of baptized believers, voluntarily associated to worship, fellowship, discipleship, service, and mission. Each local church is autonomous under Christ, accountable only to Him, free from external authority. The Church exercises the priesthood of all believers, especially through spiritual gifts, and maintains two ordinances (baptism and the Lord’s Supper).

  • We affirm the priesthood of all believers, soul competency (that each person is directly responsible to God), and freedom of conscience in non-essentials.

  • While both men and women are gifted for service, the office of pastor/elder/overseer is reserved for qualified men, in accordance with biblical teaching.

Baptism and the Lord’s Supper
We believe that Christian baptism (by immersion) of a believer is a prerequisite to church membership and is a testimony of identification with Christ's death, burial, and resurrection.

We believe the Lord’s Supper is a symbolic act of obedience, commemorating Christ’s death, and should be observed by believers until He returns. The frequency and mode (open or closed communion) is determined by the local church under Christ.

Last Things (Eschatology)
We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead, the final judgment, eternal life for the righteous, and eternal punishment for the unrepentant. Christ will return personally and visibly. We believe in the spiritual reign of Christ now, and in the future reign of Christ over all creation, when He will consummate His Kingdom.

Evangelism and Missions
We believe that it is the duty of every Christian and the mission of the Church to seek to bring the gospel to all people. We gladly cooperate in efforts to fulfill the Great Commission.

The Christian and the Social Order
Christians are called to live under the lordship of Christ, seeking to make His will supreme in both personal life and society. Flowing from the transforming grace of Jesus, we pursue righteousness by opposing sin, defending the sanctity of life, submitting to the Bible’s definitions of marriage and sexuality, and caring for the vulnerable and needy. With love and truth, we work alongside others for the good of society while remaining faithful to Christ above all.

The Family
We believe that God has ordained the family as the foundational institution of human society.

  • Marriage is the uniting of one man and one woman, ordained by God, and best reflects the covenant relationship between Christ and the Church.

  • The husband has the responsibility to lead the family in a way that is loving and sacrificial, and the wife is to respect, support, and submit graciously to his loving leadership.

  • Children are a gift from God, to be nurtured, taught, and disciplined in the Lord.

  • Christians should uphold the sanctity of family life and the biblical pattern of marriage, combating cultural distortions and pressures.
